Dr Rafael Gomez is an Associate Professor of Industrial Design at the Queensland University of Technology (QUT) and a design researcher specialising in future mobility, transport experience, and human-centred innovation. He is Founder and Lead of the BMW Group + QUT Design Academy and was Program Lead for the Mobility Futures research theme within QUT Design Lab. Rafael’s research explores emotional experience, interaction design, autonomous mobility, and emerging transport systems, with projects spanning accessible autonomous vehicles, mobility futures, and transport user experience. He has worked closely with global and local industry and government partners including BMW Group, Rolls Royce, Mini, idealworks, Alstom, Qld Gov Transport and Main Roads, RACQ, Sime Darby and others to develop design-led approaches to complex mobility challenges and has led interdisciplinary collaborations across academia, engineering, and industry. Rafael was also Co-Chair of AutoUI25, the premier international conference on automotive user interfaces and interactive vehicular applications.
