The Cost of Short-Term Thinking: Why Sustainable Pavement Infrastructure Delivers Better ROI

Tanja Conners is the Chief Executive Officer of the Australian Pavement Recycling and Stabilisation Association (AustStab) and a recognised leader in sustainable road infrastructure, asset resilience and industry capability development. With a background spanning policy, technical guidance and industry advocacy, Tanja works closely with government, councils and industry to embed recycling, stabilisation and whole-of-life thinking into infrastructure planning and delivery.
She is known for challenging traditional approaches to road investment, particularly where short-term cost decisions undermine long-term asset performance, resilience and value for money. Through her work with AustStab and across national forums, Tanja advocates for sustainability as a core investment principle, one that delivers measurable financial, environmental and community outcomes.
