Senarath Weerakoon is a Principal Coastal Engineer with more than 35 years of professional experience in coastal and marine engineering. He holds postgraduate qualifications in Coastal Engineering from IHE-Delft in the Netherlands, one of the world’s leading institutions in the field. Senarath has extensive expertise in the planning, design, and delivery of coastal protection, dredging, and maritime infrastructure projects, with particular emphasis on flood resilience and climate adaptation.
He is currently employed within the Boating Infrastructure Branch of Maritime Safety Queensland, where he specialises in the delivery of recreational boating infrastructure projects across Queensland. His role encompasses technical leadership, project governance, specification development, and stakeholder engagement for complex marine and coastal works, including boat ramps, breakwaters, pontoons, and navigational dredging. Senarath brings a strong combination of international technical training and practical government delivery experience to the development of safe, sustainable, and resilient coastal infrastructure.
