Balancing Design, Risk, and Constructability in Disaster-Driven Slope Remediation: Two Case Studies

Jeroen Berends is a geotechnical engineer with 25 years of experience in design and construction. He has provided optimized geotechnical designs on many large-scale projects encompassing the fields of civil infrastructure and mining in Australia, Africa and Indonesia. His interest and areas of expertise range from slope stability design, retaining structures, reinforced soil structures and rockfall protection. He is also an accredited RMS slope risk assessor which allows him to undertake risk assessments for the Department of Transport and Main Roads (DTMR) and Transport for New South Wales. During his spare time, Jeroen assists Universities with research studies where design methods can be improved utilising innovative products and and practical field monitoring data to validate improvements in infrastructure. Due to his extensive knowledge in geosynthetics, he assisted DTMR with compiling the MRTS58 and MRTS59 specification for geosynthetics in road pavements.
