Toward Better Standards and Installation Practices for RRPMs: Field and Laboratory Investigations

Sam Afkar is a pavement engineer specialising in pavement engineering and road asset management. He commenced employment with the National Transport Research Organisation (NTRO/ARRB) in 2021 and is currently a Principal Leader within the Safer Smarter Infrastructure team. In this role, Sam delivers innovative and sustainable R&D projects, as well as practical solutions to industry challenges, aimed at improving efficiency and performance outcomes.
Prior to joining NTRO/ARRB, Sam was extensively involved in road construction, as well as pavement modelling, performance forecasting, and asset planning. He also has substantial experience in the design and implementation of road asset management systems. Sam brings strong project management capability across both design and operational environments, having led projects, system implementations, and road construction projects. He is also the Pavement Stream Leader for the NACOE program.
