Damitha graduated from University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka in 2001 and began his civil engineering career with a leading construction company in Sri Lanka as a Site Engineer. In 2004, he obtained a Master of Philosophy in Engineering degree with the same university after completing 2 years fulltime research study.
He joined the Department of Transport and Main Roads Northwestern District office in Cloncurry as a Senior Engineer in 2010. After spending three years in Cloncurry office, he moved to Brisbane, Metropolitan Region office and currently working as the Project Manager for Centenary Bridge Upgrade Project.
Prior to that, he worked on few challenging projects in the Metropolitan Region, such as Springfield Central station multi-storey carpark project, Eastern Transitway Stage 1project and Captain Cook Bridge bearing replacement project.
