Michael Gillies is currently the Manager of Safer Roads in the Engineering and Technology Branch of the Department of Transport and Main Roads. Michael joined TMR in 2013 after working for seven years at Cardno where he worked in the traffic engineering and transport modelling space.
Michael has worked predominately in the road infrastructure and speed areas of road safety in TMR, with some key projects being:
• • The Bruce and Warrego Highway Safety Packages where he provided safety engineering to prioritise safety improvements for delivery
• The Australian National Risk Assessment Model which is a key element of the National Road Safety Strategy to improve roads and roadsides
• Technical training and road safety project development across Queensland
• Technical document updating at the State and National levels
