Simon Hurst is an Associate Bridge and Civil Structures Engineer with Arup, based in their Brisbane office. He began his career in Australia before moving to the United Kingdom in 2013, where he spent 11 years working in Arup’s Cardiff office in Wales. During his time in the UK, Simon worked on a wide range of major infrastructure projects, predominantly within the rail sector. Many of these were delivered under design and construct contracts, where he worked closely with contractors to develop innovative, practical design solutions, with a strong focus on constructability and delivery within highly constrained and complex sites.
Since returning to Australia, Simon has been working on major transport and rail projects across Queensland, seeking to apply lessons learned and construction methods adopted in the UK to local projects where possible.
