Rockhampton Ring Road Project – Collaborative Procurement Approach

Author: Mark Guymer

The Rockhampton Ring Road is a long-term visionary project for our state’s biggest highway that will unlock future economic growth, build flood resilience, and support jobs. In January 2024, an increased state contribution up to the total project budget of $1.73 billion was announced, with the Queensland and Australian governments contributions of $530 million and $1.2 billion respectively.

In January 2021, a taskforce was established between TMR and peak construction industry associations.  The outcome of the taskforce was the TMR – Infrastructure Industry Engagement Charter and the Collaborative Procurement and Delivery Model.

The Rockhampton Ring Road was selected to be a pilot project for the Collaborative Procurement and Delivery Model.  The Rockhampton Ring Road showcases the benefits of the collaborative model with several learnings from the collaborative development phase of the project.

The case study will discuss the issues that developed, how these were resolved and how the project is continuing to work with the collaborative procurement and delivery model.
