There was a requirement to harmonise the asset and site names within the Intelligent Transport System and Electrical portfolio within Statewide Network Operations. This was because asset and site naming were inconsistent across the Districts within TMR. The improvement process was developed as part of Engineering and Technology, Traffic Engineering & Transport Systems (TETS) asset management work improvement planning and has gained momentum to continue within the Statewide Network Operations Branch within Infrastructure, Management & Delivery at TMR.
The process commenced with the draft development of an Asset Classification Hierarchy (ACH) to distinguish the various asset types and group them with consistent naming and nomenclature for entry into the asset register. The process engaged with numerous stakeholders over a two-and-a-half-year timeline to ensure that all parties were involved in the co-design development process. At the end of these engagements, we had determined a suitable path forward to finalise the hierarchy, develop an appropriate nomenclature and produce a supporting explanatory document.
Once the final nomenclature, arrangement and design drafting work had been completed we progressed to seek approval from the respective senior leaders across IMD. This was achieved on the 31st of October 2022 and has been systemised within the asset management operational network.
In combination with the ACH, a process to determine the data required to be captured over the asset lifecycle had been completed. This represents the data for each lifecycle stage of each ITS&E asset within the hierarchy. This consolidated dataset included the work from Austroads on data harmonisation and is structured to be automatically loaded into the asset register. The combination of the ACH and the lifecycle data will help mature the asset management work and progress continual improvement within the SNO branch of TMR
