The Department of Transport and Main Roads noise management practices are primarily contained in the Transport Noise Management Code of Practice Volume 1: Operational Noise, 2013 (Code of Practice 1) and the Transport Noise Management Code of Practice Volume 2: Construction Noise and Vibration, 2023 (Code of Practice 2). This presentation covers the work currently being undertaken relevant to Code of Practice Volume 1, and the recent updates to the revised Code of Practice Volume 2. Participants will gain a better understanding and interpretation of TMR’s noise related requirements and upcoming publications for their projects.
As an interim measure, before review and revision of the Code of Practice 1, the TMR noise team is developing a technical note to supplement the existing Code of Practice 1. The scope of the technical note covers several different elements identified through the review of projects and feedback from a range of stakeholders. The presentation will broadly outline the scope of the technical note, and the background of the associated technical issues. The Code of Practice 2 was revised and updated by TMR, incorporating a range of project learnings and feedback through rounds of stakeholder and industry consultation. The Code of Practice 2 was gazetted by The Department of Environment and Science on the 11 August 2023 and is effective until 10 August 2030 unless repealed earlier. The Code of Practice 2, and associated Noise and Vibration Management Plans in accordance with the Code, provide projects a means of demonstrating compliance with TMR’s General Environmental Duty. This presentation highlights the legal framework surrounding the updated Code of Practice 2; the overall process of its use, including the outputs and follow on tasks. Key changes in scope between the current and superseded version will also be highlighted
