The Revised Class 1 Vehicle Regime Program requires implementation of centreline travel on structures for some Oversize Overmass (OSOM) vehicles to manage structure risk. To consider appropriate risk controls and identification of appropriate pilot and escort arrangements for OSOM vehicles, a detailed study reviewing 16 years of crash data linked to (OSOM) vehicles on the State Roadwork has been undertaken. The crash study investigated and analysed crash types and contributing factors, including the role of the road environment and general road users in crash incidence for OSOM vehicles.
This first of its kind study provides data-driven insights and an evidentiary basis for decision-making about changes to OSOM vehicle access that will improve safety for all road users.
This presentation will review the Revised Class 1 Vehicle Regime Program, the crash study outcomes and proposed risk controls, particularly for implementation of centreline travel on structures.
