Author: Amit Trivedi

10 Mins: Government’s role in the CAV eco system

Presenter will provide an overview of connected (short range and long range communication) technology and automated technology.  And explain what is government’s role in the CAV eco system and what TMR has done so far to enable safe introduction of CAV and CAV related technologies on Queensland’s and Australian roads.

30 Mins: Connected (C-ITS) vehicle trials and learnings

The presenter will begin by explaining benefits of connected vehicle technologies for human driven vehicles drawing upon the ICVP pilot. Explain TMR’s central station, security system, Connected Transport implementation on the Bruce Highway and various use cases already implemented. Finally explain proof of concept delivered utilising different vendors and learnings from various connected vehicle trials. Presenter will also explain TMR’s involvement in supporting trials across Australia and NZ.

30 Mins: Automated vehicle trials and learnings

The presenter will draw from TMR’s and international studies on how AVs detect road lines, signs and traffic lights; now and in the future. Transitioning from semi‐automated to fully automated widespread operation is the current problem facing most key AV developers. Some of these challenges, can be alleviated by providing automated vehicles with a prior high definition (HD) map. The presenter will introduce importance of HD maps for the future AVs and thus setting up the stage for the next presenter who will focus on way forward where connected technology meets automated technology.

30 Mins: Way forward – connected technology meets automated technology

The presenter will explain what should be government’s priority be in connected technology space and automated technology space; now and in the future. And provide details on what TMR is doing to implement these priorities.

20 Mins: Panel Q&A
